Negroni
Negroni Cocktail Recipe
One of the all time classic cocktails, known throughout the world and loved by all, the Negroni is a timeless classic that will be found on almost every cocktail list. Based on a variation of an Americano (Campari, Amaro, soda water), the Negroni is named after Italian Count Camillo Negroni, a legendary drinker who asked Fosco Scarselli, barman at the Casoni Bar in Florence, in 1919 to make his Americano with a bit more of a kick. Research shows (and oh there's been so much on just this one cocktail) that the Amaro was exchanged for sweet vermouth in the early 1930's to produce the Negroni cocktail we all love and adore now. A Negroni is one of the easiest gin cocktails, made simple of equal measures of three ingredients; gin, campari and sweet vermouth but has led to hundreds of riffs and variations, most famous of which is the Boulevardier, where gin is replaced by bourbon and the ratio increased slightly in its favour. A perfect blend of sweet, bitter and dry, the Negroni cocktail should be a regular in your cocktail making and make the list on any home bar cocktail list. |
